DG Cities recently participated in the CUES Venture Programme focusing on Smart Cities, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Social Impact in Cambridge. The event, organised by CUES (Cambridge University Engineering Society, www.cues.org.uk) focused on technology applications and initiatives that could improve the city we live in.

We share this passion here at DG Cities. We’re based in Greenwich, London, and have a multi-disciplinary team that crosses telecoms, city design, mobility and sustainability. It was a great pleasure to be invited to CUES Venture, www.cuesventure.com, to be a panellist and judge for some extremely high-quality ideas and applications.

If we are to make our cities more liveable, workable and sustainable, we need not just good ideas, but good ideas that make commercial sense and work for citizens first. The winners per category were:

Artificial Intelligence: Mobile Sports Science Laboratory, creating a prototype for a mask that evaluates and coaches high performance sport training. 

Robotics: Industrial Assembly Robotic Systems, designing and prototyping autonomous robotic systems to complete industrial assembly tasks.

Smart Cities: Food Waste into Nutrition, investigating the possibility of turning fresh surplus food into nutritional pills. 

Social impact: AI Tutor for Students, that can help students who encourage difficulties in their homework by recommending relevant study materials such as revision notes/videos and similar questions with explained solutions. 

These events are hugely valuable, and it was great to see young people getting involved and solving city problems, from their own unique perspective, as well as being exposed to the wider development community.

At DG Cities, we love being part of these programs to both contribute, learn and meet new people with a shared passion. We want to turn our ideas into reality and experiment with various technologies, because creating new things should be, and is ultimately, just good fun.
